What they did not want you to ever find out is that your generation, the generation born between 1980-1995, actually outnumbers the Baby Boomers. They knew that if you ever turned your eye towards political reform, you could change the world. They tried to keep you sated on vapid television shows and vapid music. They cut off your education and fed you brain candy. They took away your music and gave you Top Ten pop stations. They cut off your art and replaced it with endless reality shows for you to plug into, hoping you would sit quietly by as they ran the world. We as a society are only as strong as our weakest link. And a depressed person may cling desperately to it until they are out of the woods and they may remember your compassion for the rest of their lives as a force greater than their depression. What is meant by “sacred geometry”? Well, in its simplest terms it is the geometry which underlays all creation. There are repeating geometric forms which can be seen in all existence from the atomic to the cosmic. They range from the simple and familiar such as circles, squares, triangles, spheres, cubes to the more complex such as hexagons, pentagons, spirals, toroids, fractals, helix to fourth dimensional forms such as the hypercube and the hypersphere. These forms make up all of our visual reality and their repetition and their combinations speak to the nature of reality and the underlying symmetry and order of the universe which may be at first indiscernible to the naked eye.

Once we have learned to recognize these forms and to understand a bit about the mathematical relationship between them a whole new world dawns for us. You’ll recognize these patterns everywhere. You will see them in the arrangement of atoms within a crystal. In the forms of the virus and cell. In flowers, seeds and leaves. In the structure of an insects eye. You will see them in the cream in your coffee and in the shape of geological structures on the broad face of the Earth. You will see them in clouds and weather patterns. You will see them in the structure of planets, their orbits in galaxies and in the fourth dimensional shape of the universe itself.

The shapes are a language. They speak of relationships and patterns and those patterns are meaningful no matter what the scale. The spiral in your coffee cup has the same relationship as the spiral of the galaxy. You see these patterns are not “things” as we are accustomed to think of things that exist in our three dimensional realm. A baseball is a “thing” it approximates a sphere but it is not a sphere. A sphere is an ideal that exists independently of the crude world of our perception. However, because a baseball approximates a sphere we can use what we know of the ideal of a sphere to predict how a baseball will act in three dimensional space and in the fourth dimension of time. This is the world of ideals and their relationship to the outward world of forms.

Two men, both seriously ill, occupied the same hospital room.

One man was allowed to sit up in his bed for an hour each afternoon to help drain the fluid from his lungs.

His bed was next to the room’s only window.

The other man had to spend all his time flat on his back.

The men talked for hours on end.

They spoke of their wives and families, their homes, their jobs, their involvement in the military service, where they had been on vacation..

Every afternoon, when the man in the bed by the window could sit up, he would pass the time by describing to his roommate all the things he could see outside the window.

The man in the other bed began to live for those one hour periods where his world would be broadened and enlivened by all the activity and color of the world outside.

The window overlooked a park with a lovely lake.
Ducks and swans played on the water while children sailed their model boats. Young lovers walked arm in arm amidst flowers of every color and a fine view of the city skyline could be seen in the distance.

As the man by the window described all this in exquisite details, the man on the other side of the room would close his eyes and imagine this picturesque scene.

One warm afternoon, the man by the window described a parade passing by.

Although the other man could not hear the band - he could see it in his mind’s eye as the gentleman by the window portrayed it with descriptive words.

Days, weeks and months passed.

One morning, the day nurse arrived to bring water for their baths only to find the lifeless body of the man by the window, who had died peacefully in his sleep.

She was saddened and called the hospital attendants to take the body away.

As soon as it seemed appropriate, the other man asked if he could be moved next to the window. The nurse was happy to make the switch, and after making sure he was comfortable, she left him alone.

Slowly, painfully, he propped himself up on one elbow to take his first look at the real world outside.
He strained to slowly turn to look out the window besides the bed.

It faced a blank wall.

The man asked the nurse what could have compelled his deceased roommate who had described such wonderful things outside this window.

The nurse responded that the man was blind and could not even see the wall.

She said, ‘Perhaps he just wanted to encourage you.’

Epilogue:

There is tremendous happiness in making others happy, despite our own situations.

My parents got a 15-year mortgage on a new house in the mid-70s. The house was $32,000. Average home price in that area now? $190,000.

So, home prices went up. Food prices went up. Health care prices went WAY UP. Rent prices went up. Higher education went up so damn high that some of us forgo that all together. Energy prices went up. Car prices went up.

Prices of prices went up.

We also pay cell phone bills, internet bills, data plans, text plans, online subscriptions, cable/satellite tv, netflix, DVR subscriptions — bills that didn’t even exist 30-40 years ago. We also use computers and smartphones and microwaves and other consumer electronics that didn’t exist 20-50 years ago.

We need medications and doctors and contact lenses and tampons and maxi pads and other things that cost money just to be alive and keep us healthy.

Most of us can’t afford to:

Get married and have a “Traditional” big wedding

Buy a house

Buy a new car

PLAN to have children

Take two, consecutive weeks of vacation.

Jobs that paid 50k in the late 1990s now pay between 30-35. Interest rates that favor consumers have gone down.

So I say, no. We are not choosing not to buy homes. We’re not choosing to take the bus in cities where there’s no good public transit. WE ARE NOT CHOOSING TO LIVE WHAT SOCIETY DEEMS AS AN UNDESIRABLE LIFESTYLE.

Don’t even get me started on the fact that these two people in the picture are young white hipsters. Young black and brown folks have been forgoing homeownership and buying new cars for decades, this shit isn’t new, pal. You’re just acting like this shit is new because it’s hitting white folks.

I’m either Gen X or Millennial, depending which dates you use, and so I’m old enough to have been living on my own as a lot of this started spinning out of control. It was like watching a trainwreck. The current state of all of this is ridiculous. I was going to go on a long rant about Boomers refusing to age gracefully, the impact of 9/11, the double-edged sword that is globalization, and our current loan culture and confusion of “needs vs. wants” that has been bred into us by clever marketing, but I’m too angry, and it was getting too long.

So I’ll just say this: the system is seriously out of whack, and we’re in this strange place where we’re both trapped in bubbles and depressions at the same.

I keep waiting for market corrections that just don’t seem to be happening.

And also, I’ll just throw up Crack Shack or Vancouver Mansion for reference. And if you visit it, bear in mind that this is in a city where the AVERAGE HOUSEHOLD INCOME is $46K. FORTY-SIX THOUSAND A YEAR. Oh, yeah, the system isn’t broken at all…damn those cheap fucking Millennials & Gen-X-ers!

Well, they’re right about the “save us all” part, anyway.

Okay, like…what total fucking assholes. Actually we HAVE heard of the Great Recession! In fact, that’s WHY we live with our parents! And I don’t actually know ANYONE in that age bracket who is optimistic about the future. And I’m not sure how wanting a job with greater responsibility makes you narcissistic. My last job was as a barista. You’re telling me I shouldn’t want a job with greater responsibility than making coffee and being nice to people when they were mean? And none of the people I have ever worked with EXPECTED to get promoted regardless of performance. They either didn’t care about being promoted, or they expected to get promoted by working hard to show that they were more competent than everyone else.

Go fuck yourself, Time.

P.S. Want millenials to stop thinking about themselves so much? Then maybe you should make Syria or Bangladesh the cover story instead of whining about how your kids are annoying.

No, motherfucker, we don’t expect to see promotion or advancement no matter how goddamn hard we work, because there’s NOWHERE UP TO GO.

We live in a world of wage and hiring freezes, without cost of living adjustments in the face of rising costs, of dead end jobs, where entry level demands a bachelors, and that bachelors sinks you so far in a hole you’re going to be paying for it for years, so you better not rock the boat or get fired.

Rich white people raise their rich white kids to be whiny and entitled, then complain that *all* young people are like that even though it’s mostly rich white kids.

My biggest problem with the whole ‘entitled’ thing is that when we were kids, our parents and in fact every adult I ever know said “go to college so you don’t have to be a janitor/mcdonalds person/laborer… and yet…here I am 4 years later…in debt and i was in food service. exactly what they said i’d never have to be…
